I had the privilege of working with a few amazing teenagers this month and I am going to be featuring them right here on my blog.  The first one is Miss “H”.  We had a great time with red lipstick, fun locations here in Rockport, and squeezing the last bit of daylight out of our two sessions.  I enjoyed a bit of Q & A with her and here is what she had to say:

Hello Miss “H”, I really enjoyed our recent photo shoot.  I thought it would be fun to take a minute and ask you a few questions.  So you will be wrapping up junior high in May and heading to high school.

How do you feel about going to high school?

It’s very bittersweet for me. I have become really close with some of my teachers over the years and of course I’ve made a lot of memories. But I know there are good times ahead at the high school too and I’m excited to move on.

What one word would you use to describe your junior high experience?

Ridiculous (in some good ways and some not so much)

What is your favorite subject?

English, because I love reading and writing. I also like health and choir.

What activities/clubs are you involved in?

I am in UIL competition for Ready Writing and Impromptu Speaking. I also have Pure Heart Girlz, a Bible study that I started in sixth grade and have continued to lead.

What is one of your favorite memories of being in junior high?

My English class got to go to see The Hunger Games at the end of the school year in seventh grade. That was fun. And this year at one of the pep rallies all of the eighth graders decided we weren’t going to scream at the grade level cheers. We were all just silent and it was so funny.

What two things will you miss most about junior high?

I will miss my teachers a lot. I hear that in high school they give you homework on the weekends, I used to think that was just a myth. So I will also miss being free on the weekends.

What are you looking forward to in high school?

I can’t wait until I can sit wherever I want at lunch, because we have to sit alphabetically in middle school. I’m also looking forward to having a little more freedom.

If you could give a word of advice to an incoming junior higher what would it be?

Study for tests but don’t stress over them. Find ways to politely move around slow walkers in the hallway (I had to master that one) and don’t date while you’re this young.

As an eighth grader,  if you could tell your sixth grade self something now that you wished you knew then, what would it be?

Don’t try so hard to fit in.

If you could change one thing about junior high what would it be?

The part where we got a dress code and I can’t wear my cute clothes.

Are you planning anything fun  this summer?

Yes, I’ll be going to student camp with my church for a third summer. I am also hoping to go on a mission trip. And of course sleepovers, but that’s pretty much a given.

And if you could tell your senior self something what would it be?

I would be like “Ya made it this far, you’re almost done. No more 8 hours 5 days a week of this. Hello real life.”

Again, I enjoyed my photo session with the beautiful Miss “H”.  I am continually amazed that I get the honor of being her mom!!  You are such a visionary and dreamer……never stop!!!
